Cyril Azubuine’s work is a blend of compassion, innovation, and action. A Cloud Support Engineer by profession, he channels his skills into real-world change—particularly by creating access and visibility for underrepresented groups in tech. He discussed his career transition from physics to IT, focusing on robotics and drone training. He founded the STEM Girls Program in Nigeria to encourage female engineering students, providing programming kits and internet subsidies. Cyril also volunteers in drone training programs, impacting over 250 girls in South Africa.

Born in Nigeria and originally trained in physics, Cyril shifted to technology because he craved something more tangible. “I did not want to stay in the theoretical side,” he said. “I wanted hands-on projects.” That desire led him to robotics, drone education, and eventually cloud computing, where he now supports Microsoft’s Azure customers while building his own startup.

Cyril shared about the STEM Girls Program he founded in Nigeria, focused on supporting young women studying engineering. He raised funds from contacts in the United States to provide programming kits and internet stipends, ensuring that participants could learn Python and embedded systems without barriers. One of the students now facilitates training sessions for Black in Robotics, with her first official program taking place this July. It is a powerful example of how investing time and tools into someone’s growth can ripple outward in meaningful ways.

Cyril has also trained children for international robotics competitions like the FIRST LEGO League, and has volunteered to lead drone education sessions, often unpaid, across the continent. In one initiative, he trained over 250 girls in South Africa through a UN-backed virtual drone program, teaching flight, safety, and use cases from his home setup. “They really enjoyed it,” he said. “They were so excited to see the drone fly in real time.”

His newest venture, Cloud Store, is a startup affiliated with Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub. It offers cloud computing training and aims to expand access to skills in IoT, AI, and machine learning. Though still small, Cyril sees its potential to grow, especially as he prepares to start a master’s program in Paris focused on IT project management. Despite challenges securing housing and navigating logistics, he is driven by what comes next: building international communities committed to learning and empowerment.

Cyril wants to be someone “recognized for making impact.” That recognition is already underway through the students he has taught, the programs he has started, and the doors he has helped open. His teaching has reached beyond Nigeria and South Africa, with virtual sessions impacting students in North America as well.

“A lot of people actually out there… all they need is just a tiny push.”

Cyril Azubuine is a cloud engineer, founder, and volunteer who sees kindness as taking action. Keep an eye out for more interviews.
